The Iraqis we wanted to reach were impressed by how Saddam was brought down. You don't hear much from them compared to the constant drumbeat from the Islamists and Baathists, but they are out there. There are millions of Iraqis who are not shooting at us, dozens of towns and villages in relative peace. You don't hear from them either.
As for the prison fiasco, I suppose we can flagellate ourselves for the next six months about this. How about we just bust the people who did it and go on from there?
Our enemies killed their prisoners, and displayed the bodies. They captured hostages, killed some, and threatened to burn--and eat--the rest. They killed civilians transporting food, burned their bodies, and hung them from bridges. They bomb innocent Iraqis as well as coalition The American killed in Saudi Arabia was dragged behind a car and deposited in the middle of town.
None of this gotten a tenth of the outrage currently being directed at the United States because a few nutballs abused some prisoners, most of which consisted of making them pose for a camera without pants on.
