Looking back over the last 50 years or so, it would seem to me that the most charismatic presidents we've had were Kennedy and Clinton, both Democrats. I agree that we should beware of charismatic leaders because they can suck in the Press and get away with all sorts of things.
I don't live in California, so all I know about Arnold's (can't spell his last name and I'm too lazy right now to look it up) performance is what I read. It seems he's doing a pretty good job, but not being from the state, I'm almost certainly not getting the full picture.
The more extreme fundamentalists are absolutely certain of God's existence while the more extreme atheists are just as absolutely certain of the opposite. As an agnostic, I personally believe that questions about the existance or nonexistance of God are essentially unknowable. It'd be like a single cell organism trying to comprehend a human, perhaps more so.
When I'm at a religious friend's house, I honor the customes of their home. If they want to pray at my house, that's fine by me, too. I find it rather amusing how whinny some atheists are when someone expresses a religious opinion that differs from their own. In America, the majority of citizens hold religious beliefs. So long as they don't force me to live by them (and they don't), then I have no problem with it.

- "Then there's the media, which has dedicated itself to a Kerry victory." should be "Then there's the media, which have dedicated themselves to a Kerry victory."
