Yes, John Kerry did serve in combat. No, he did not spend "Christmas in Cambodia" as he claimed many times. It's unlikely that he ever went into Cambodia, especially not to smuggle in Special Ops or CIA operatives. A Swiftboat was 55 feet long, loud, propellor driven*, and had full US Navy insignia - hardly the thing one would use for clandestine river operations. By his own book, it appears his first Purple Heart wasn't properly awarded because he admits that he hadn't come under fire, as discussed here.
Combat vets hold those who inflate their records in utter contempt, especially when they claim medals falsely.
*Most clandestine river operations used either shallow draft boats with a jet drive (less chance of fowling on river debris) or, even more likely, a native sampan.
Current Events » in reply to Other than Harkin, who exactly is "Falsely claiming combat veteran status "?
Exaggerating one's record is falsely claiming combat status

- "Then there's the media, which has dedicated itself to a Kerry victory." should be "Then there's the media, which have dedicated themselves to a Kerry victory."
