The Right can't trot out its patriot without reminding everyone that he stayed home on a buy. So let's try to destroy the other guy's military record by saying that he was cozy and safe on a ship thousands of miles away from home after he volunteered for active duty.
Gee, using that logic, anyone who served in the military and wasn't actually shot at for all of it was a fake and a coward. Like, say, the people who have been stationed in Europe over the last 20 years. Surely that isn't what you mean.
