if they're apologists, that's bad enough. But they're not actually advocating Communist dictatorship as such. Yes they are deluded and intolerant - I agree with every point in your post, only the results count, and every single Marxist state in history has miserably failed this 'engineering test' (maybe what Sharansky would call the 'town square test' ..).But a deluded and arrogant idealist professor is still a long way from being a Nazi college professor. There is no way that a Nazi could advocate anything but vicious destruction of most of humanity. A Communist professor can still advocate advanced economic theory, and an idealistic outcome. That may be crap for the real world, but it is not on par with Nazism
It sounds like what bugs you is their intolerance and dictatorial ways - for instance it is unacceptable to pass or fail a student on the basis of whether or not they agree with your (the professor's views). Apart from being dictatorial, and thus crapping on the whole basis of education as directed learning and inquiry - the actual printed grade (even the whole degree) on the graduate's CV would be absolutely worthless. It would be more a 'robotic conformist' educational qualification rather than what it's meant to be: a liberal arts education which trains the student in balanced, directed inquiry.
Still - these guys are (I assume) NOT advocating dictatorship - which a fascist or Nazi MUST do by definition - so your complaints are really about 2 different things. Firstly, that they are irresponsible and useless; and secondly that their ideology, though hopefully well-meant, must always lead to dictatorship. That is bad enough but it is not the leftist equivalent of a Nazi college professor.
So therefore, your entire case rests on this final point:
Announcing that you are a Nazi will get you drummed out of a university, or most representative government bodies around the world. Announcing that you are a Marxist often gets no more official response than announcing that you are a redhead. Not one person in fifty seems to know what Stalin did.
This doesn't make Marxism "worse" than Nazism.
But it does, IMO, make Marxism more of a current danger to society than Nazism.
That may or may not be true, but probably deserves a further discussion on the historical trend towards collectivism in the world generally, capitalist as well as communist. Capitalism can pass the 'town square test' of democracy but we are still worker bees or ants rushing to and fro from our crappy little boxes the middle of the huge concrete hive ..
(as you well know since you've opted for the work-from-home situation .. that gives more presonal freedom but then you lose out on all the interactions and bonding with people at the workplace)
- And also, you are wrong here:
The history of the obscenities of the Third Reich are common knowledge.
That is definitely NOT true in the world at large, and I would be suprised if it was true for the US. These things are being forgotten quickly, which is really one reason why I am so very aggravated on this issue. It sounds like that apart from Israel, the German government is the most active in keeping the historical lessons alive - they deserve credit. But many people have no idea of Nazism - just that "it's bad" - and tend to see 'The Jews' as selfish whiners. I know this from personal experience.
Thus as usual, your arguments are being always directed from your antileftist agenda .. but to give you credit I do believe you would apply Sharansky's town square test to right wing or fascist countries as well.
