It empowers those with evil beliefs to neutralize the words and definitions by which those beliefs can be addressed.

When concepts like "Marxism," "communism," "socialism," "collectivism," or "progressivism" come up, it's common for some leftist responses to be attempts to fog the terminology until the words lose all meaning. If you can add in other terms almost impossible to define, it works even better.

This was a primary tool of control in "1984." If you can't use the words, you can't deal with the concepts.

Holston's quote is typical of an academic throwing little gobs of batshit into a statement until the listener is just dazed by the impact.

"historicist approach...post-structuralist theory...marxist history-from-below approach...theoretical consciousness..."

Wow.

And I've seen much worse.

I've often said that the big questions often have simple answers, and the the main reason this angers people is that the simple answers aren't the ones they want to hear.

First example that comes to mind: "exercise more and eat less."
