Please read my posts. You are not addressing my real points, and we don't really disagree
There's also Colorado's latest embarassment, Ward Churchill. He equated the people working in the World Trade Center on 9-11 as "Little Eichmanns" because they were capitalists, therefore they had to be equated with Nazis and obviously deserved being murdered.
What an utter turd - well, too bad you have endure this sort of crap. Certainly a ugly blot on the great name 'Churchill' ..
Is this guy a professor and does he fail or otherwise have power over people who disagree with him? Otherwise, what has this to do with the issues in this thread?
I have already addressed the issues of murder and tyranny in general, made it absolutely plain that indeed as a result of my close witnessing, I stand in solidarity with all these people. And Tom Brosz and I have already thrashed out and somewhat refined the issues there. So why are 'turning the wheel back to the beginning' and making points which I have already addressed and clarified?
Now finally, this excerpt from the marxist professor's bio:
My work is generally marxist, and I think marxist theory and political practice are more relevant now than ever, given the global dominance of the capitalist mode of production and American imperialism. During the last decade or so, I've moved from a new historicist approach based in post-structuralist theory to a marxist history-from-below approach based in the British marxist historians, Jean-Paul Sartre, and Ernst Bloch, among others. This approach argues that theoretical consciousness is by no means the monopoly of professors, but is to be found at work in human activity as such, even (or especially) among exploited workers. I'm most interested in the writing and social practice of the laboring classes, with emphasis on the early modern Atlantic world, but not to the exclusion of more familiar sorts of literature. I think ruling-class writers are a lot more interesting when you read them alongside the workers and working-class writers who worried them to death.
So what, Larry? As an impartial observer, I don't see anything offensive in that, just the silly pretentious phrase 'theoretical consciousness' (what the hell is that??) But there is nothing in that paragraph which advocates tyranny and murder. Providing the guy doesn't fail his students on the basis of agreeing/disagreeing with him, then in that case the only real issue here is with the quality, and with the ideological slant, of liberal arts education.
I've made my stands on Marxism and Nazism clear enough in this thread, and don't want to revisit and repeat myself, sorry .. I've always liked your posts on aviation and life matters generally, and don't want to get into any shadow-boxing here.
