But the scary thing is, according to Christianity, if you don't accept Christ, you get to roast in a nasty realm for all eternity.
Not quite my idea of a choice. And we only have about 70-80 years to supposedly get our acts together. And why does a being who is supposedly all-powerful, all-knowing, and eternal need a bunch of talking monkeys on a tiny little blue dot need our praise and worship? I know I don't give a flying fig about the bacteria that presumably dwell in my home, and they are undoubtedly closer to me as a life form that God is supposed to be to us.
I was raised Roman Catholic. I'd like to say I had a wonderful experience learning about a deity who loved and cared about me, but for the most part it seemed that I was constantly being told that we better do what God says in exacting detail, or we're crispy critters forever for sure.
I'm sure I took it all the wrong way, had bad teachers, etc., but the underlying message was inescapable (worship and obey God or die), and it hasn't gone away now that I see things as an educated adult.
Maybe human beings have screwed up God's messages, that wouldn't surprise me. But it all seems like social and cultural manipulation.
