Like I said, he is the boss. I may not like everything he does or says, but if I want to be in his after-life kingdom then I better do what he says.
I am not a Literalist. I do not take the Old Testament Literally. It is made of many books that were from stories that had been past down by word of mouth for many generations. It was also written in Hebrew and Roman before being translated to English. I know meanings can be changed when stuff is translated. I think there is some truth in it all, but it can’t be taken literally.
So I don’t know if there is a literal Hell. I used to think that it meant if we didn’t follow God’s laws, then our lives on Earth would be hell, but I am not so sure about that now. I have also wondered that if there is an actual Hell, can a soul get out of it? Perhaps this was sparked by my reading of Larry Nivens’ Inferno.
The New Testament was written shortly after the events it describes, and it tells the same story from several different sources.
I believe God created man through evolution. I think once we reached a certain point in our development were we no longer animals and started being civilized, God made himself known and gave us laws to follow- the Ten Commandments. Those who can follow these commandments and be free of sin, can enter his Kingdom. (God seems tougher on humans in the OT than he does in the NT. Perhaps this is because we were an unruly bunch of humans who were just a bunch of primates in recent history. So like a father who is tough on their young children, he was tough on us. Just a thought)
But it wasn’t working. No man could live without sinning. Heaven was staying empty. So God decided to come down as Jesus. I always had a hard time with this part. God was, but yet he wasn’t Jesus. The best I can understand is that he put part of his being into Jesus and separated it from the rest of him. I think he did this for two reasons. To experience what it was like to be a human and to try and connect with us.
Since no man could be sinless, God gave us another way to get into Heaven. God experienced being a human, even dying a painful death. He said he died for our sins, and that if we believe in him (Christ) then we will have everlasting life. That is it. That is all we have to do now to get into Heaven. It is a choice. Accept him or don’t.
And what is Heaven? I think it is another place (Perhaps another Universe or something like that) that is very real to those who are there. It could be right here sharing the same space as our Universe, but because the matter there follows different physical laws from our own Universe, we can’t detect it. Light photons from that Universe could be all around us, but we would not see it because are eyes are made of a different type of matter.
How do we get there when we die. One way that is possible is for God to create a copy of our bodies, using matter in the Heaven Universe. Perhaps the matter in this Univers matches our own. Perhaps there are atoms in that universe that match our atoms. Then all God would need to do is map the atoms in our body (Hopefully he would have atomic maps of our bodies from when we were younger. For God, who engineered and created our Universe, that should be easy to do) Then he could transfer our conscious over to our Heavenly Universe body. Perhaps he even gives us wings on this body.
Anyway, that is a whole another topic.
