The more I think about it.

Seems clear that what is offensive to a person is determined by that person. Not by others.

Especially in religion.

Having a bunch of people with from a Judeo-Christian culture commenting on what a Muslim SHOULD find offensive or not seems ridiculous. There is no detectable sensitivity to Muslims among Christians, no detectable understanding of the religion, as Christians believe that unless one accepts Jesus Christ as their one and only true personal savior one is condemned to eternal damnation. Extreme chauvanism.

Americans especially are chauvanistic. There is a deep-seated believe that everyone should and wants to live as we do in America. There are some people who believe that, so help me anyone's God, that a McDonalds in a foreign land is a sign of progress. That, of course, being extreme.

Some of those same people believe that learning about a religion is blasphemy. Some Christians believe that even teaching about other religions at the college level should not be allowed. Therefore there is not a widespread understanding of Islam in the US, anyway, or any sensitivity to Muslims. Not that understanding would lead to sensitivity, but it can.

Would it be reasonable for a bunch of Muslims to determine what should be offensive to Christians? And acceptable? Seems to me that would require a Christian theologian.

Same with Muslims. I have to take their word for what is offensive to them. For me to tell them what SHOULD and SHOULD NOT be offensive is folly. Narcissism. Arrogance. All of which is prevalent in the Judeo-Christian world.
