Another example of how words can become distorted with the passage of time

Christmas is celebrated around the world by alot of people. Kids are told that if they are good, then Santa Claus will bring them gifts.

The tradition of giving gifts was started by Nicholas in the 3rd century AD.

"One story tells of a poor man with three daughters. In those days a young woman's father had to offer prospective husbands something of value—a dowry. The larger the dowry, the better the chance that a young woman would find a good husband. Without a dowry, a woman was unlikely to marry. This poor man's daughters, without dowries, were therefore destined to be sold into slavery [working at a brothel]. Mysteriously, on three different occasions, a bag of gold appeared in their home-providing the needed dowries. The bags of gold, tossed through an open window, are said to have landed in stockings or shoes left before the fire to dry. This led to the custom of children hanging stockings or putting out shoes, eagerly awaiting gifts from Saint Nicholas".

Before the printing press, stories were spread by word of mouth. Across regions the name is distorted by dialect and accent. Saint Nicholas becomes Sante Niklaus, which becomes Santa Claus. This process took 1700 years.

Another simple example is Christmas, which is formed by joining Christ Mass.

It is all a matter of undocumented His Story (Her Story wasn't important back in the dark ages).

Whose definitions you adhere to depend heavily on your the believability of the sophistry, which may sophisticate over time, and attract many, as in 'phyllic' of sophy. The sophisticated phyll-osophy may become dogma! LOL.
