Protest of this kind can be very effective if organized and adhered to by people. Americans have had less luck with that kind of approach lately because we have a national attention span of about 20 minutes. Boycott and non-violent protest erodes support for offensive opinion by degrees, making it less and less profitable, and marginalizes those who express those opinions. They are still free to express their opinions, but will gradually find they have less and less of a sympathetic audience.
