7th Heaven was a family staple for us for a number of years. The characters were believable and the show didn't preach even though it all revolved around a minister's family.
However, as the years went on, too many characters were introduced and too much crisis evolved in each person. The mother plopped out twins that were completely unnecessary for the family evolution and eventually were portrayed with young actors that had as much talent as what you'd expect at a grade school play. Character consistency went out the window and people that began as likable ended up whiny, bothersome, or just plain stupid.
At the same time we were watching that show, we also got hooked on the show "Everwood". What a contrast. The characters were deep and rich and for the most part their interactions were completely believable. They delved into modern issues and showed how complex many of them were. It was a sad day when the final episode aired even though the relationships ended as everyone wished.
