Interesting line of thought here. The competition of the future for business is extension and multi-national expansion to achieve world wide market share. Corporations in their operations will gobble up their corporate competition as well as attempt as much in line intergration as possible. An interesting counter movement will be to watch capital formation be its own dynamic in the form of hedge funds (now) as they take over any corporate weakness and fragment the corporation to profit from the parts being of more potential value than the unitary corporate development. GM is a great harbinger of things to come. GM fell to the ropes and the raiders bought a stake with the intent of separating the very profitable GMAC and spin it off. Future competition will possibly be greater in the corporate world as finance becomes a competitor with production in the fragmentation of the means of production ala Ricardo.
