Tom, don't do that. It's just plain rude. When you make a "witty" remark like "You're not an economics major, are you?", you're dismissing his input. What began as this bouncing of ideas off of one another turned instead into this one-sided thought. Laurie clearly found another option that you'd left off of the possibilities and you made fun of it. My guess is the reason you did is that it put forth the fascist possibility where the innovator and businessman gets in bed with authority and power and forces his product on the consumer. Whether that's good economics or bad it is clearly an option that people have taken in history.
Jesus, you have a thin skin and a defensiveness to you. Someone can't bring up the fact that fascism is just as evil as unbridled collectivism without you going on the attack? I, like Robert, was really enjoying this thread although I could see your defensiveness lurking. I'm not sure you've noticed but, since the election, your opponents have been extending a bit of an olive branch and trying to engage you in reasonable debate. It looked for a while like you were going to respond in kind but I see this same bulldog crap building again. I've been watching for any word from you that might indicate you were as relieved as all of the rest of us that the partisanship might subside a bit.
Tom, I just don't see it. It's as if you're on the sidelines watching for any little slip ready to prove you're the cat's meow of political thought. One concept authoritarians never seem to grasp is the art of brainstorming. Ideas are simply that. They get added to a list and prioritized until the crazy ones are debated and thrown out and you finally hit some compromise. Laurie did just that. He tossed out a data bit and expected it to get added to the list. I never heard him say any of your possibilities were wrong or to impune your character. For you to judge his competency to be in the discussion was a low blow and in my opinion, a sign of weakness.
