Are you really saying that it is all about the oil?
That is -- how shall I put this? -- atrocious.
"We" have not secured the Iraqi oil fields. "We" have not secured anything but the Green Zone. In any case, even if the oil fields and the infrastructure that delivers the oil were secure, that resource doesn't belong to us, unless we are willing to occupy Iraq indefinitely with our Legions.
In your analysis you mention casualties. The Iraqis have suffered many more casualties than we have, many of them civilians. They are not under the command of any American official, except insofar as they are occupied, the way our military branches are. Yet they too have been and continue to be killed and maimed as a result of the civil chaos this war has started. None of us has the right to say what level of Iraqi casualties is acceptable to obtain an outcome that is favorable to American foreign policy objectives.
The father of the family has another job: to set a moral example that the rest of the family will be compelled, by pride and belonging, to follow. Shooting up the house across town to appropriate their firewood doesn't provide that kind of example.
