"Withdrawal from Iraq will simply lead to a far worse conflict down the road."

You've got it partly right, TB. Republican incompetence in Iraq will lead to a far worse conflict down the road. It is their incompetence that has made withdrawal a necessity. I've never denied the Bush strategy might have worked, but it didn't because it was mismanaged. More important, when it was mismanaged the Administration refused to admit the fact and adjust its tactics. Quit making excuses for these Bozos, the problem here was not just bad strategy, it was lousy tactics.

The situation is so bad now that something else is going to have to be done, and it will no doubt cost us much more. It may make you feel better to think things are unravelling just because the Democrats don't have the determination to stick with it to the end, but the truth is even Republicans who supported the invasion now see that Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. The war was lost before the election, it was lost a long time ago, and the administration did nothing to change their plan or try something else while there was still time. They weren't just wrong, they were stupid, and that is one family value we are under no obligation to tolerate from our leaders.
