You have a very good point...

...but in this case it's more like taking over your neighbor's house who is a wanted criminal, caring for his kids better than he did after turning him in, paying them for the firewood at his house, but having his criminal buddies, prey on his kids anyway because they sell firewood too and wanted to be the only game in town.

And MA, the scary thing is there's a good chance Saddam DID possess WMD. Everybody thought so. No one possibly imagined how many folks he held on a lease from the French UN ambassador, Kojo Annan and this particularly unsavory guy whose name I don't even like putting in print for search engines to find. Any of them could've given him not only a heads up when needed but had all the motivation in the world to play courier for Saddam's missing WMD chemicals, VX, etcetera.

Do you really think Colin Powell went up to the UN to lie and say things he didn't believe?

Me neither.

And the reason Bush takes the egg on the face, the political defeat, the media pounding and all the rest?

Because accusing one of these nations, even with sizable circumstantial evidence of their involvement, is far more counter-productive to US interests. Bush has a bit of a martyr-complex and I'm sure he sleeps very well at night. In that sense, if Bush ever pens a memoir in a decade or so, the full story will likely emerge. But since he has daughters and family, who can be preyed upon, he may never reveal all the intelligence gathered in Iraq and elsewhere.

Bush has never cared so much about conservative interests as much as his "chosen mission" and carrying this info with him to his grave fits his personality type.

The whole world is atrocious MA. What our 'allies' do daily to the USA, after all we have done for them is atrocious. The dirty deals, pay offs and corruption at all levels is enough to make one sick. Imagine everyone at your work was corrupt in some way or another? How would it feel to continue to work with them?

Sometimes one's better off not knowing the extent and near universal nature of human depravity.
