Incidentally, if we had just let Saddam, Iran, and the rest go happily on their way while we were tied down in Afghanistan, the result a few years from now in that area would have been anything but peace and stability.

As opposed to the way it is now? Doesn't it strike you as even a little silly to project that the result of an unknowable future that will never be would be chaos, so it was better to inflict chaos right away?
