I had a book that had all kinds of scientific information from the time period that the book was printed in, the book was about 100 years old, (unfortunately I do not know what has happened to it) in that book there was a description of the mercury barometer.
It was explained in the book that the column of mercury would go up to 32 inches when the device was at sea level and would drop lower when taken higher in altitude.
Anyway, today at Elevation: 6,288 feet at Mount Washington Observatory the Barometric Pressure was 23.78" and falling.
Max. Temperature in 24 hour period was 22°F and the Min. Temperature was -14°F, in other words a 36 degree change in Fahrenheit temperature scale.
