Should not that kind of study be ongoing so that we could understand what is truly happening in the upper atmosphere, (magnetosphere) what if more molecules are escaping now than then?
IF more molecules are escaping now than 10 years ago, then I figure that it is due to the introduction of radioactive atoms into the atmosphere, like you pointed out it could not be the sun, I can not see how it could be the "greenhouse gasses," but the fission of nuclei can impart enough kinetic energy to molecules to cause them to increase their velocity to beyond the escape velocity of Earth's gravity.
