Colossal national debt
Most of our current debt, I believe, is due to our colossal national spending. The current Federal budget is about four times what it was in 1960, in constant dollars, adjusted for inflation. In 1960, we were at the height of the Cold War, the economy was pretty good, and people weren't starving in the streets. I can't help but believe our budget has more than a little fat in it.
