Very logical

The only thing it doesn't take into account is human ingenuity. I think people would band together in groups and would find ways to get to the gas, find alternate ways to generate electricity. Many would die but many would survive. The roving gangs would be horrible so people would stay behind newly-created compounds and learn to protect themselves. Soon there would those would go out and seek out the gangs and destroy them without mercy knowing that if they didn't do so, their families would continue to be in constant danger from them.

Life would change to such a degree, it would no longer be recognizable as civilization but there would be survivors. You cannot discount ingenuity, the will to survive and the desire to safeguard the lives of loved ones.

We'd rebuild (I say 'we' but I'm sure I would not be among the survivors, handicaps of almost any physical kind would be death sentences) but what is rebuilt would bear no resemblance ever again to the world in which we now live. Mindset would be different. When you cut it down to what is needed to survive and extraneous, the extraneous is left behind.
