More light doesn't mean less burglary
I have two daughters living in cities. They both know to stay to well-lit places with lots of people, to walk closer to the street than to the buildings and alleys, and to be aware of their surroundings. The 21-year-old, who walks everywhere, is 5'10" and carries a chair leg with her when walking to and from work alone. (Looking like trouble also helps. Predators will look for an easier mark.)
Burglary is distressing and inconvenient. Assault and robbery are worse.
