I generally support ways to save energy (or any other resource, come to that) that are reasonable. I have mostly "twisty" bulbs in the house now, except for those bulbs on dimmer switches. My outside lights go on when they sense motion, and off when they don't. I spend a bit extra to get more efficient appliances, but not a lot extra. I run a heat pump in my office, but it's also the only thing that's practical out there.
I also like things like LED traffic lights, more efficient street lights, and other clever ways that public facilities save power without getting weird about it.
On the other hand, I burn the bathroom light all night near my kid's rooms (twisty bulbs now, but not when they were little). I have a hot pot that keeps near-boiling water handy for things like tea, instant oatmeal, and other stuff. I'll fire up the oven to heat up leftover pizza, because microwaving it turns it to mush. I keep my house warmer and cooler than I probably should for my wife's sake.
I would be interested in reasonably-priced working solar panels on my roof. That, and other things like installing double-paned windows are things I would do if I had the money.
I think most people think like I do about personal energy use. They'll go for energy-saving things that work and are not too expensive, but don't want them shoved up their nose by the government either.
