Okay...

I didn't want to pick a fight with you...but...if you WANT one...OK!

Light pollution?

Just think about the terminology employed in the first place.

Is water vapor in the air water pollution or oxygen molecules oxygen pollution? Of course not. The whole concept of light pollution is bogus. Light is the one thing that's harmless and it's immediately being cast in the negative.

Just like global warming "denier" used to invoke the holocaust deniers, light pollution as aphrase makes it immediately something that has to be "cleaned up" because it is pollution.

Bull hockey!

Light is shining down on the half the surface of the Earth at all times. Does sunlight pollute the Earth? No way! I happen to LIKE LIGHT.

I fly a lot and when over darkness the Earth is depressing. It is the cities with their light that makes them gleaming jewels - testimony to man's mastery of the night. Light is a beacon of civilization. A lighthouse to guide the lost ships plying the darkness.

Yet by labeling it pollution, the environmentalists of all stripes make it something evil. Something that must be CONTROLLED. Something the government must REGULATE.

S---w that!

When there's no dark corners left on Earth and when the blinding glare of the cities outshines the sun...then will I start worrying about regulating light and trying to control others.

Astronomers have no more right to lobby for darkness than I do to desire massive illumination. I want to live in a city where there are no dark, creepy streets. Where the light flushes out the vermin and makes it safer to drive, safer to walk and safer to shop. I love brightly lit white light shopping centers. I detest dim, depressing facilities that emit eerie cheap light.

If Raoul or you can't see the sky as well as you would like...tough luck. Move to somewhere you can. But don't try to turn out the lights on the rest of us and expect us to sit and live in darkness just so you can use your scopes.

;-)

There. Happy now?
