If our descendants feel "at home" in space...

Then they will be very different from us!

Their concept of freedom will be radically different from ours!!

We need to have gravity in order to move, we need air , average temperatures...

If to our descendants those needs become obsolete and they want much more (from 0 G to 10 Gs; from vacuum to Venus atmosphere, from 0°K to 2,000,000°K), then how could we be of any use to them?

If we go ahead with creating such creatures AND make them as intelligent or much more than we are, we will soon be erased. Not because they think we're bad , but because their need for their freedom won't be satisfied by us. And they'll be looking for better ways of life which will be their right!

This is why it remains a SF theme.
Plenty of ethics questions would be raised.

Frankly, I don't understand that urge to plan for our survival in space because :
Either they will be so different from us as to be unrecognizable or to not recognize us the way we'd like to be.
Or they will be machines. Maybe machines can keep a better track of their creators than beings with radically different freedom needs.

Do SF writers have as heroes beings that are radically different from us? Never!! Any ET worth writing about always has human characteristics and therefore, assimilation to humans always works one way or another. But then, they're not really ET, are they?
