A clean slate isn't creepy.

Imagine doing away with silly and useless things like circumcision, tattoos, curse words, the boogey man, disco, alcohol, drugs, hippies, folklore and superstitions. Give them a new language based on standard well thought out rules of grammar and spelling, unlike most modern languages that are a jumble of words and grammar rules that have accumulated over hundreds or thousands of years. Useful knowledge such as engineering, mathematics, chemistry, biology, and the other sciences would be compiled into a database (from how to build a fire and make a clovis point, to creating nanotubes and navigating interstellar space) for their future use. You can include this information without putting it into the historical context of this world.

Their culture wouldn't be anymore strange or odd to them than our culture is to us. In fact, it probably would make much more sense. The historic memories and mythologies of this world need to be left behind. Let them dream their own dreams and create their own legends.
