Both are necessary

As a science/math major with a strong interest in the humanities, I can testify that both should be stressed in any educational program in order to produce a "well-rounded" human being. It sounds like a truism, but the two complement each other, and one should not exclude the other. Science teaches us how the world works, the humanities teach us how humans work (hence the name).

If we really want to remove the dreck from the educational system, I would suggest banning sports altogether and shifting business courses to a vocational school, where they belong. The purpose of an education is to teach people how to think, not what they need to know.
