In the context of Occam's Razor

The least-convoluted explanation for your description of the political scale is that you're located nearer one of its extremes than its center. You seem to be spinning the equivalent of an epicycle theory to explain away the inconvenient motions of the political planets.

Once again you've skirted my question, and it falls to me to answer it. The political scale's theoretical center is something like an average, halfway between two theoretical endpoints. While the "mainstream" is like the median--it depends on the distribution of individuals on the scale, and places half the group on either side of the median, wherever that is. And rarely is the median at the center.

It troubles Conservatives greatly that American's political median, its mainstream, is well to the left of center. That's the battle you've been fighting since the New Deal, and what conservatives mean when they bemoan the "socialization" of America. It's not that some secret cabal of leftists has taken over the government and is secretly directing it to adopt liberal policies against the wishes of the populace. The truth is that Americans themselves have grown inexorably more liberal, and in the longterm there's really nothing you can do about it.

The center of gravity's well to the left of your location, in a heliocentric political universe.
