You are just wrong in your assertion.

And it is so glaringly obvious that I would guess that it is a deliberate mistruth.

Say a wealthy person owns a 1,000,000 square foot commercial property. How much does it cost to protect it from fire, and crime? How much does it cost to provide it with water, power, garbage services, etc. so it can, indeed, continue to provide a profit to the owner (or to be worth anything if he chooses to sell it)? How much does it cost to keep the mail flowing to and from the property? How much did it cost for the various inspectors and licensors (is that a word?) to make sure that the building was designed properly, was built of proper materials, and by competent workmen? How much of the city/state/federal government is devoted to the property?

Now compare those costs to similar ones for your home. Do you suppose that there is a difference in scale?

If the country were to be conquered, and this commercial property was lost as a result, how much would that cost the owner, compared to how much you would lose on your home? Do you really think that the wealthy property-owner benefits the same as you from our investments in defense?

I anticipate a string of silly quibbles. Fire away.
