The US government takes money at gunpoint for wars fought for the benefit of subsidized multinational corporations, more money for subsidys for factory farms, and forgoes taxes for toxic religious organizations. I don't like subsidizing BP, John Hagee or ADM. And yet it's done.
This issue has two considerations. If the policies transfer wealth from the middle class to the superwealthy and destroy the middle class, those people who can no longer earn health care must be provided with health care.
The other is whether the function of the government is to transfer wealth to the superwealthy or provide for the welfare of it's citizens.
The US has come late to many human and civil rights matters. It was late in abolishing slavery, it still has the death penalty and it hasn't accepted the responsibility that many other countries have in providing health care for all citizens.
When the adolescent American can appreciate saving lives as being more noble than killing foreigners this issue will solve itself.
