...the so-called "Law" of Supply and Demand is not a fundamental property of economic systems. It is a common sense rule of thumb which is obvious, but irrelevant. It is not a formal proposition which can be tested and defined by experiment or observation, its main function is to reassure the student he is not preparing to learn a criminal activity..
However, the way the "Law" is discussed and explained to business majors is an attempt to indoctrinate them with the idea that it is some natural Principle that magically prevents businessmen from committing economic crimes. The very indignation with which you respond to my off-the-cuff comments tells me that you are terrified I might be right, and all that propaganda you have been fed about entrepreneurial Libertarian Capitalism might be exposed as a lie, and that deep down inside, those Corporals of Industry are basically gangsters. You react as if I were challenging your religious faith...and I guess in a way, I am. My arguments are as close as you can get to heresy on a college with a Bus Ad department. Talk about being politically incorrect...
Economics is not a science, it is a justification designed to give Capitalists a legitimacy and a prestige they do not deserve. Its propaganda, disguised as mathematical reasoning. Its purpose, (at least as it is taught in the USA), is not to explain, or to inform, but to cover up the truth.
Other than that, we are pretty much in agreement. 8)
