Human desires are part of natural law
Profits can only be maximized when demand is accounted for. Raise the price too high and profits go down. People's desire to maximize profit is the driving force in market forces. The desire to become rich leads people to build businesses that end up employing people. People acting in their own self interest leads to the greater good in that way. That is one of the primary points made by Adam Smith.
