Look around you
Every single private business you see was the result of someone acting in their self interest to better their own lives. In the process, all these businesses have created hundreds of millions of jobs and careers for hundreds of millions of people. Those employees have homes and cars, etc, because they have jobs and careers. This is why free market fundamentalists are so evangelical about capitalism. The fact that people acting in their self interest creates enormous benefits for society. Think about it.
