Show me that $2.6 trillion in the trust fund, Buck. Is it in gold bars? Sitting in a bank somewhere? A money bin? Or maybe it's just a pile of statements declaring "Uncle Sam owes Social Security $2.6 trillion." Where is that money going to come from when they have to cash in those special issue bonds? China?

It's going to TAKE 30 years or more to properly phase in the changes to get us to a stable, self-run and self-owned system. But hey, we can just keep borrowing money and raising taxes forever, can't we? Look at how well that's working elsewhere. Look at how many nations Bernie's ideology has destroyed.
Social Security taxes all income up to $106,800. There's a cap on SS taxes because there are caps on benefits. Back when this was designed, that seemed fair to people (Medicare taxes ALL income). If you want to admit that Social Security is straight-up wealth redistribution - welfare - go ahead and remove the tax caps.
