I don't think Social Security is going anywhere. It is an appealing concept, same as universal health care, free higher education, and many other benevolent ideas that have been floated down the pike.
Until, like in Europe, the last end of the fiscal rope runs through the pulley, and instead of a soft landing there will be a hard one. I don't take any joy out of this. I just wish different choices had been made back when they could still be made almost painlessly.
I certainly don't begrudge anyone their current checks. Lord knows we paid for years for them.
