Hangover from tax day? Maybe. I paid almost $36,000 in Federal taxes alone last year. I'm sure it will be much more useful in the hands of my betters than if I had been allowed to spend it on my family and myself.
And I am beset by people who tell me I am a selfish bastard for being irritated about it, and that I should be delighted to pay taxes at rates that would have shocked a medieval serf, and would have had our colonial ancestors not just rise up in revolt, but sail to England and throttle the King personally.
Even as I sit here, the Democratic Party of the United States and the People's Republic of California is striving to its utmost to make sure that I pay at least this much next year, and if they have anything to say about it, a hell of a lot more. Cranky? Who, me?
As for capitalism, suffice it to say that people wouldn't say the things they said if they really understood how capitalism worked. It gets under my skin after a while, I suppose, the way it gets misrepresented. Kind of like the reaction you would get if you called witchcraft "Satan worship" down at the local East/West bookstore.
