It's very rare that I agree with SDAITech1, but I would have to agree in this case that complaining about one's personal tax bill does taint otherwise high-minded political discussion with more than a little crass self-interest. It's worth pointing out that many people with much higher tax bills don't piss and moan about it, and seem to appreciate the benefits, and understand the cost, of living in a relatively orderly advanced civilization. I dare say that to a hardcore Rightist, any tax at all is too high a tax. Sorry, gotta take it with a grain of salt--you will always complain about your tax bill.
Even though this is the Flame board (and because somebody's already taken me to task for being too rough with you), OK, let's say you're not completely ignorant of economics. But I have to stand by the fundamental point that the beliefs you express on the subject can still be labeled as predominately an economic ideology, and not the result of scientific examination of the subject.
Oh boy, economics, the "dismal science". I know I shouldn't go there. But a dispassionate analysis of the subject that leads to conclusions is at least leaning in the direction of science and not in the direction of ideology. You can trot out examples of economists who are wrong, but you can't also ignore economists who are right more often than they're wrong...like Alan Greenspan. And, with all due respect, Tom, you're no Alan Greenspan.
