Barry's weird NASA conspiracy about the color of the martian sky is about as hoaglandesque as it gets, Al. His assertions that Gil Levin found life on Mars has little better scientific merit than any so-called "anomaly-hunter" employs. Just because his brand of psuedo-science dabbles in something other than pictures of "faces" on Mars, doesn't make it any more credible.
As for what it takes to travel to Mars, we simply haven't the technological capacity at the present time to send someone into space for two years and live to tell about it. Traveling to Mars and back is a huge endeavor for which we are completely uprepared for at the present time. The only way to get prepared is to learn how survive for long periods of time in space and on an airless planetery body. ISS and future lunar missions are the only way to safely do this.
