Al,
Barry's misuse and misrepresentation of data from the Viking, Pathfinder and MGS missions is no different than Mr. Hoagland's misuse and misrepresentation of data from these very same missions. Both are engaged in psuedo-science. Barry's is a bit less frenetic and a bit more believable, but its conspiratorial nonsense just the same.
Certainly, Mr. Levin's Viking experiment required considerably "more education, training, and experience' than that employed by your run-of-the-mill cydonut. But Barry doesn't have any "more education, training, and experience" in Mars science and research than either Terry James or Richard Fusniak.
If you are interested, here is one of his more loony conspiractorial rants: "Remember Watergate? How about NASAGATE?"
As for ISS and future lunar missions, I remain firmly convinced that these are the most cost effective and safest pathways to Mars. I don't think that playing space-man in Antarctica is likely to get us any closer. I think its neat, fun stuff, but that's about it. Perhaps, I am wrong about this. But so far we've not figured out how to spend two years safely in space. I am certain we will figure it out and I am reasonably certain ISS and revisting the moon will help us do so.
