I disagree with almost all of Barry's conclusions except one, ...Mars... The Living Planet.
I do believe that the experiments strongly indicated life (especially the LR and I base this on the fact that there was no response for the heat sterilized control sample), the least NASA could have said "strong indications of life, but no conclusive proof"...
Yet what they said was...
"Viking not only found no life on Mars, it showed why there is no life there.... the extreme dryness, the pervasive short-wavelength ultraviolet radiation... Viking found that Mars is even dryer than had previously been thought... The dryness alone would suffice to guarantee a lifeless Mars; combined with the planet's radiation flux, Mars becomes almost moon-like in its hostility to life"
and that statement (IMH & Professional O) is unfounded and unwarrented, especially when we remember some of the places life has been found on Earth since that time..
I also disagree with Barry's strong stance against the SR, his conspiracy theories, disease from space, etc, etc... (Notice though, he & I made a pact to respectfully disagree over 2 years ago and we have maintained civility)
This all said Mark, I believe that Levin should at least deserve some credit for his possible discovery. If Beagle II finds life conclusively, would you at that point give the man the credit he deserves?????
