The right's been trying to make hay out of this since May, but it's only amusing if you don't know why the Texas Democrats did what they did.
The citizens of Texas have freely chosen Democrats for their state legislature for decades. The Republicans only got their majority in the last election, and their first act was to try and gerrymander the voting districts to ensure themselves a perpetual majority in the future.
Like Gray Davis says, the Republicans are out to steal the elections they can't win.
In their typical jack-booted heavy-handed thuggish way, Republicans are intent on exploiting their temporary majorities these days to undermine democracy and grab and hold on to power by any means possible. It's a wonder to me that Tom can keep a straight face when he rants about Democrats' lust for power, with Republican politicians all around the country shamelessly behaving like power-mad fascist pigs.
I applaud the Texas Democrats for standing up to the Republicans the only way they can, and striking a blow against the tyranny of the temporary majority. I wish more politicians showed that kind of courage and integrity.
