I am well-aware that the collusion between large corporations and government is often a corruption of the free market system. This is referred to as a "mixed economy," and has the worst features of actual socialism without many of the benefits of a pure free-market system.
I would support a massive reduction in the power of the Federal government, reducing it to those functions originally described in the Constitution before courts "interpreted" various phrases to mean that the government has nearly infinite power in the economic and other sectors of America.
I would support separation of economic activity and the state for exactly the same reasons as the separation of church and state. This would include phasing out socialized retirement and medical programs, and massive deregulation at the Federal level, moving most regulations and programs (including education) that would be left to the state and local level where they belong.
The temptation toward corruption in government is directly related to how much power the government has. What would be the point of lobbying a Senator if that Senator could not do anything to pump tax money to you or to wreck your competition?
Of course, this reduction of state power is a fantasy, and would never happen. The current system works too well for those with the fix in, from both political parties.
