Do I see the Bowser pattern playing itself out?
1) Tom finds a leftist willing to play straw man.
2) Tom enjoys his company so much that he devotes endless hours sparring with his loved/hated opponent.
3) Tom heaps so much abuse on him that the opponent leaves.
4) Tom becomes sad and lonely.
