What makes you think my concern over gerrymandering is a new thing? I've seen the practice as corrupt ever since I learned about it, years ago. I see it as a symptom of a flaw in the system, one too tempting for politicians to ignore. Human nature won't change, so the only way to address the problem is to remove the temptation by eliminating the need for it. The need to periodically adjust district boundaries is a clear indication that the concept of geographical voting districts is a sloppy one that needs constant tweaking.
When you assert that Republicans are exercizing a "legitimate" power, again you're confusing what's right with what's legal. A legal power that's so easily and frequently abused certainly lacks legitimacy as far as I'm concerned. When politicians abuse a legal power then we the people have a duty to figure out how to take that power away from them.
