Actually, 'skeptical' has a point

"Joe",

You're new around here (I think; I assume you're not an oldtimer using a different alias), so you wouldn't know that I have two personas. One's plain old "Robert" who gets to speak his mind, the other is "Robert Shepherd, Moderator", who's obligated to take notice when somebody complains about something like language.

The User's Guide has a page about the minimal rules around here. On "bad" language, the rule is that it's verboten in subject lines; as for messages, it says:

The offensiveness of "bad language" in a message is a pretty subjective thing. We're more tolerant of it in messages, but also guided more by community consensus--if somebody complains to a moderator, we might have to do something about it. Use strong language intelligently, for emphasis and effect; don't use it habitually or thoughtlessly.

Obscenities and profanities directed at another participant here constitute flames. Flames, and therefore personally-directed strong language, belong on the Flame board and nowhere else.

Some rules to live by

I'd say your use of "bad" language falls into the habitual and thoughtless category--that's just how you speak, and you don't notice it. Now that somebody's complained, I have to ask you to tone it down. This can be a good thing: You get more mileage from profanity if you're miserly with it and drop it in for conscious effect.
