The first thing ANY political party does in a state when it gets the majority is screw with the redistricting at their first opportunity to benefit their own party. The Democrats and Republicans have been doing this back and forth in California and most other states since time immemorial. You might want to check on past redistricting in Texas.
The words "bipartisan" or "balance" only float up from the bottom of the Democratic political lexicon when Democrats are losing. When they are in power, they have no compunctions about taking a political sledgehammer to the opposing party. For decades in Congress, the Republicans major job was keeping the chairs warm, and I didn't hear much concern about "balance" or "fairness" from the Democrats. Just mentioning something along those lines would have made Tip O'Neil laugh until milk came out his nose. Now that the Republicans have the same perks, the squealing is deafening.
Try and imagine a Democratic Senator standing up and expressing concern that the Supreme Court may not be "balanced" because there are too many liberals on it.
