"Spreading democracy by gunpoint."
This phrase has shown up a lot lately, as in "You can't spread democracy by gunpoint."
As with most phrases like this, it is designed to engineer a false impression, i.e. that we are taking guns, pointing them at the populaton of Iraq, and saying "democracy or death."
In point of fact, it is possible to spread democracy with guns. As in WWII and Iraq, the guns are used to destroy the monsters crushing their own people underfoot, and the people are then free to rise up on their own.
