What really matters is what the people smuggling explosives into America think, and if they believe, rightly or wrongly, that they can influence the election based on their perception of what happened in Spain...
So, the alleged increased vigilance symbolized by the Dept. of Homeland Security, Ridge's "basic orange" color scheme and the *ahem* Patriot Act are mere window dressing, a sham? No surprise to me, but it is a surprise to see you entertaining the possibliity, Tom.
Now take a deep breath and think of this: the immediate reaction of Americans on and after Sept.11, 2001 was solidarity in defiance of the new enemy. I predict any attempt to influence the election by public, terrorist murder would meet with the same reaction - that is, Americans of all political opinions would react exactly as Mary Anne has said she would, and vote exactly as they would have before such terrorism took place.
I really don't think you believe that most Americans are a flock of frightened sheep - but that's what you're implying in this thread.
